DCIS provides health insurance for UBC international students,
returning Canadian students, faculty & staff, and other official
affiliates (for example: visiting scholars and people doing a
post-doctorate fellowship).
Please Note that your affiliation status at UBC will determine
your eligibility for one of the following plans:
Health Insurance for New International
Students
Most new international students who register for
classes at UBC will be automatically enrolled for iMED Health Insurance
for New International Students. In this case the premium is a part of
your student fees. Please visit the iMED
Website for more information.
Global Campus Health Plan & other interim medical insurance options
UBC students who have Permanent Resident status or Canadian citizenship
do not qualify for the iMED Plan, and returning international students
also do not get iMED. Students who are new to BC and who need
temporary* medical insurance please contact
DCIS for alternative health insurance options.
Full-time students who need interim insurance please visit the Global
Campus Health Plan website for information and application
forms.
*Students who will reside in BC for six months or longer and who qualify
for the BC Medical Services Plan (MSP) should apply
for MSP promptly after arrival, and should purchase interim health
insurance for the 3-month MSP waiting period.
UBC faculty, staff, and visiting researchers (including people
conducting a post doctorate fellowship) who are NOT registered as
students at UBC, and who need temporary medical insurance may apply for
a Non-Student medical plan. DCIS offers a range of plans.
